It’s so hard to know with Cinnabar things what you’ve actually got. Prices are all over the place. Sometimes things are obviously not real Cinnabar and they’re still listed for thousands of dollars. I don’t claim to be an expert but I have watched as many videos about it as I can find. There aren’t many.

Luckily, for us, the auction house that sold us only calls real Cinnabar Cinnabar. If it’s not real Cinnabar, it’s called red lacquer, or Cinnabar style.

In addition, this did pass the cinnabar test. I put nail polish remover on a Q-tip and it came away with a rust color.

However, this isn’t 100 layers of Cinnabar. It might be a few layers of Cinnabar on top of carved wood, or some other type of base.

Box measurements: 1.75 inches tall by 3.6 inches deep by 5.5 inches wide
Stand measurements: 1.75 inches tall by 5.5 inches wide by 3 inches deep.
Box on the stand: 3.5 inches tall by 5.5 inches wide by 3.6 inches deep.
Origin: China
Condition: Fair. There are several areas of damage to finish.

1. Use an app called Google Lens to take a photo of any item. It will bring up similar items and how much they sell/sold for. This is also helpful in figuring out what to call or how to describe the item.

2. Do a Google search for the name of the item.

3. Do a search for the item by name on Chairish and another similar site.

Since I am being fair with my pricing, I want you to know how to do this. It will only help me by validating my pricing choices, and hopefully it will help you to recognize items that are overpriced.
