This is an Infant Weighing Machine and was made by Salter for Boots, for the task of weighing babies. Back then, you would have the druggist/pharmacist do that for you, so this was a bit of a show piece in the store. There are four arms that extend from the base of the scale which once held a wicker basket - the basket is not included. The shape of the arms is oval. The scale is a wonderful blue color and can weigh items up to 28 lbs. The front of the scale, the information part, looks really great! I think this would be so fun in a nursery or on a kitchen counter or in a craft room =)
