In the Japanese tradition of the "Ikebana" art of arranging flowers and stems, the three elements are "line, color, and mass", and the principles are the creation of "movement, balance, harmony, and a fresh approach."
Done in natural earthtones of shades of brown, clay red, and a hint of curry splotched drip-glaze on the surface, this stoneware cluster vase makes a thought-provoking statement as a mid 20th Century decorative object on its own, or grouped with other collected studio pottery pieces, and can also be used for artful arrangements of cut blooms, twigs, or weeds.
There is a maker's mark, however, it is very faint.
It measures approximately 5 3/4" x 5 1/4" x 3 3/8".
