Each plate in the series has a different dome of a named and numbered building on the reverse, seen from the inside and below.

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is Italy's oldest active shopping gallery and a major landmark of Milan in Italy. Housed within a four-story double arcade in the centre of town, the Galleria is named after Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of the Kingdom of Italy. .

These plates were originally designed and executed for building contractor Andrea Brenta, Milan, as Christmas presents. One of each was given every year to clients and friends of the contractor.
