Joan Miró (1893-1983) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, and ceramicist. He was born in Barcelona, Catalonia, and began studying art at a young age. In his early works, he was influenced by Fauvism, Cubism, and Surrealism, which became his signature style.
Miró's paintings are characterized by bright colors, playful shapes, and dreamlike imagery, often incorporating abstract forms and symbols drawn from Catalan folklore. He was particularly interested in exploring the relationship between art and the unconscious mind, and his works often feature biomorphic shapes and playful compositions.
Throughout his career, Miró also created sculptures and ceramics, incorporating his signature whimsical style into three-dimensional forms. He was a prolific artist, and his works can be found in museums and galleries around the world.
In addition to his artistic career, Miró was also a political activist and supporter of Catalan independence. He lived through some of the most tumultuous times in Spanish history, including the Spanish Civil War and the Franco dictatorship, and his work often reflected his political and social views.
Joan Miró died in 1983 at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.
