Veloy Vigil
Born in Denver, Colorado in 1931, Mr. Vigil grew up on his family’s farm near Greeley. After high school and a stint with the US Marines, he returned to Colorado for two years of study at the Denver Art Academy and the Colorado Institute of Art where he developed and refined obvious talents. The American Greeting Card Company hired him directly from school, and for the next fifteen years he worked as a commercial artist and art director for various firms concluding with American Greetings in Orange County California. During those years he pursued a career apart from his commercial interests, using every spare minute to grow and develop as an artist. The prestigious National Academy of Design accepted one of his earliest canvases in 1964. In 1965 he was the recipient of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Purchase Award from the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center and later was honored with the Avery Memorial Award from the Heard Museum, Phoenix, AZ. He continued to command a wider audience and attention with his works. He was invited to join the National Watercolor Society, where he later served as an officer. In 1969, he received the Winslow Homer Award.

The art of Veloy Vigil presents images and shapes filled with illusion, urgent possibilities, and unspecified destinations. From the great tradition of abstract expressionism, he has inherited a deep concern for the subtlety and weight of the solid form presented in a distilled manner. See less
