Made in the 1960's by Austrian printmaker artist Gunther Kraus Wien. this folio set of prints was created to accompany an exhibition under the auspices of the Austrian Institute in New York in the 1960's.

Besides woodcut and lithography, etching and aquatint occupy a preferential position in art printing. Aquatint is an intaglio technique. In contrast to etching it affords great variation of surface tones. Resin dust is applied and melted on a highly polished copper or zinc metal plate. The parts which are to be surface tones in the print are left free of asphalt during the covering process. When the plate is etched, small depressions are made in the metal which take up and transfer the color at the time of printing.

The folio set includes 4 original aquatint prints each measuring 8 1/2" W X 7 1/2" H, a paper folio artist named cover folder, and a fold out summary paper about the artist and the work.

The folio set is in great vintage condition consistent with age and very light signs of handling. They have never been framed, and are now being offered here for an excellent price. See less
