This piece … Read more A wonderful hand carved bust of an african man from the gold coast which was completed in 1936. This piece of american folk art is highly unusual in that it depicts an african man. The bust is carved from pine while the 2-step base is made from oak. The face is very expressive. The shellacked finish is alligatored and is a rich honey color. Condition on the sculpture is excellent with no loses. There are a few slight age cracks which are expected due to shrinkage. The sculpture measures 10 3/4" high and the base measures 5 3/4" square. See less
