From his 1973 obituary printed in Philadelphia's Evening Standard newspaper:
Edward Warwick, former dean of the Philadelphia College of Art, died Thursday at a nursing home. He was 91 and had lived at the Cambridge Apartments, School House Lane, Germantown.
Mr. Warwick served as dean of the College of Art from 1933 to 1955. Prior to becoming dean at the school, which was then called the Philadelphia Museum College of Art, he taught and lectured there for 20 years.
He was a graduate of the Delancey School and attended the University of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia Museum College of Art. He was the son of Charles F. Warwick, Republican mayor of Philadelphia from 1895 to 1899.
Mr. Warwick was best known for his lectures on the history of furniture, costumes and medieval armor. Along with illustrator Henry C. Pitz, he authored a book, "Early American Costume," and wrote a number of articles on Chippendale furniture for publications such as "Antique Furniture."
His own art talents were in the areas of print making and watercolor. His works appeared in numerous exhibits at the Woodmere Art Gallery, Philadelphia Water Color Club and the Philadelphia Art Alliance.
Mr. Warwick is represented in the permanent print collection at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He received a medal for distinguished service in art education from the Alumni Association of the Philadelphia College of Art and the medal of distinguished achievement from the Philadelphia Art Alliance.
He was awarded honorary degrees of doctor of fine arts from Beaver College and doctor of humane letters from the Moore Institute of Art.
Mr. Warwick was a member of the Philadelphia Sketch Club, the Philadelphia Water Color Club, Woodmere Art Gallery, Peale Club and the Arms and Armourers Club of New York City.
