I found this cutie at an antique/vintage shop in Kansas City. It’s an artfully done, one-of-a-kind petite plant stand handcrafted by a local Kansas City artist sometime in the mid to late 1980s. She enjoyed repurposing antique china teacups and saucers into mosaic tiles to create her artwork pieces. The English Country garden-inspired design, in the shape of a garden bench, was created using meticulously hand cut pieces of china set in mortar on a wooden frame. For its age, it is in excellent condition with age-appropriate wear. Note, there are two tiles missing on the left lower arm (see photos 1, 2, 7) which do not affect its beauty or utility. Being drawn to its wabi-sabi charm, I embraced its perfectly imperfect look-and-feel and purchased it this way and have displayed it as is with a couple of pretty potted plants. This beauty measures 16½” x 13¾” x 10¼” W/H/D. The plant stand’s seat bench measures 14” x 7½” W/D and will comfortably accommodate two to three smaller potted plants; weight 8 lbs. Colors for the mosaic pieces are varied and represent the colors you’d see in an English Country garden setting. The wooden frame was painted in a pewter-washed looking matte paint. I placed felt pads on the feet to protect floor surfaces years ago. It has been displayed indoors and when outdoors, in a covered patio setting away from the elements to preserve its integrity. For a lover of unique garden elements, this beauty does not disappoint!
