Seashells show very different decorations, among them the types Neptun, Diaspora, Astraä, several different Phenomen decorations, Chiné and, as with this example, Papillon. This special design was so popular that it was executed in four different sizes und it was even exported to England for the firm Max Emanuel in London. This is no surprise when you look at the high quality of this object: the vase hardly shows any irregularities or failures in the decoration and even the inside of the shell vase was iridiscised.
