An antique mixed metal ice bucket, wine bottle chiller, or champagne cooler with pierced batwing handles made by WMF (Württembergische … Read more An antique mixed metal ice bucket, wine bottle chiller, or champagne cooler with pierced batwing handles made by WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) of Geislingen, Germany between 1925 and 1930. The Continental design could also be used as a stylish cachepot—from the French verb cacher, meaning "to hide"—as a decorative vessel used to hold (or hide) a plant's growing pot.

This ice bucket was designed in the Jugendstil style which is the German iteration of Art Nouveau. The gleaming copper body is decorated below the shoulder with a low-relief frieze of leaves under whiplash stems. The pierced batwing handles are golden brass. Marked on the base with WMF's "running ostrich" mark, used on the company's designs from circa 1925 to 1930.

Good overall condition with scattered shallow nicks and scratches. There is some discoloration and corrosion visible inside from exposure to water. There are several shallow dings around the edges; the design sits securely on a flat surface. The outer dimensions measure 9.25 in. wide (handle to handle) x 7.13 in. height (to top of handle). The copper pot is 6.25 in. height and the opening is 6 in. diameter. See less
