This authentic cover from February 22, 1982 is probably the most recognized New Yorker cover. Originally published in the first issue of Thew New Yorker (February 21, 1925), it was re-published annually in the issue closest to the first issue date through the 1990s.
The cover design is by Rea Irvin (1881-1972), the de facto first art editor for the magazine. In addition to illustrating numerous covers, Irvin was also responsible for the design of the distinctive New Yorker typeface still used today. The cover features Eustace Tilley, a fictional New Yorker Upper East Side "dandy".
