This pair of super rare armchairs was designed by Torben Skov for the Danish manufacturer Erik Jørgensen Møbelfabrik during the 1990s. This is the EJ 8 model. The geometric frame is made of chrome-plated metal. Rectangular seat and backrest are upholstered with natural red leather. The same element is on the armrests. Form follows function – this is one of the main idea of the Bauhaus school design, which is very visible here. The armchairs will find their place in both studio and private arrangements. They perfectly match as a strong accent in minimalist spaces.
Torben Skov is a Danish graphic artist, mainly known for designing postage stamps. Since 1990 he has been designing stamps for Post Danmark. The need to create something completely different from graphics led Torben Skov to become interested in furniture design in the 1980s. In total, Torben Skov created 35 projects and his work is rare on the market. In addition to several awards including stamps and first prize in Japan in a furniture competition, Torben Skov also had a separate exhibition at the Designmuseum Danmark in 2007.
Erik Jørgensen Møbelfabrik is a manufactory founded in 1954 by saddler and designer Erik Jørgensen. In the 1970s, the company was considered a leader in Danish furniture design. Jørgensen has earned a reputation for his extraordinary upholstery skills, inventive upholstered furniture and unparalleled knowledge of sofas. The Erik Jørgensen brand reflects a passion for materiality and craftsmanship, evident in classic and contemporary designs with sculptural elegance.
