This is a stunning example of the craftsmanship and detail from the Zimbalist Music Box Company that made these pieces so desirable and valuable. From the rectangular shape offset with high rib designs is hand engraved with florals, scrolls and vinery and the interior that is fitted with mahogany, all upon engraved scrolled legs to the silver plating throughout this box is a treasure unto itself, and perfect for holding your treasures. This original owner of this music box kept treasured pieces of jewelry inside. This piece plays "Ode to Joy", and at some point they had the music component repaired/replaced.
"Fred 'Uncle Freddie' Zimbalist, world renowned musician of his time and manufacturer of Zimbalist Swiss Music Box," according to his obituary. Fred Zimbalist (1909-2003) founded the Zimbalist Music Box Company in Cleveland, Ohio just after World War II. Zimbalist Music Boxes are best known for their unique and varied hand engraved brass music box designs that ranged in from small hand-sized to larger scale table top-sized pieces, like the famed "Taj Mahal" Music Box measuring 25' x 33".
