A pretty pink … Read more A very rare pair of delightful pastel pink, green, and turquoise/pale blue double gourd opposing enamel vases. A pretty pink (bow) enamel ribbon around the middle. Each Huluping vase is decorated throughout with further double gourds, leaves, flowers and auspicious bats. This is a mirror pair, hand painted carefully with delicate pastel coloured enamels over brass.
Made in China second quarter of the last century. Republic Period.
These pieces are very symbolic - considered to be good luck and also a Daoist emblem of immortality. Based on a design from the Southern Song Dynasty.
The enamel work is of an exceptionally high quality.
We have not seen another set like this.
