Marvelous mid-century modern elegance and enjoyment are inevitable with these rare Dorothy Thorpe treasures! This sophisticated set of 6 cocktail/wine/toasting glasses feature a trumpet shape design along with the iconic bold sterling silver band at the rim for which Dorothy Thorpe was known. The acclaimed Mid-Century glassware designer's personal and creative understated elegance are reflected in all of her pieces, but most vividly in these multi-use glasses; perfect for any occasion, be it a casual after work cocktail at Happy Hour, an elegant evening soiree at home on the terrace or a lively weekend brunch. They are beautiful treasures on their own, but image how they will delight the eyes of your guests when filled with wonderfully colorful beverages!
Dorothy Thorpe was born in Salt Lake City, UT in 1901. She graduated from the University of Utah and settled in Glendale, CA in the 1930s. Inspired by trips to Hawaii, Thorpe originally designed glassware with eucalyptus, irises, roses and narcissus flowers. These designs were created through a sandblasting technique onto the blank glassware. She produced complete sets of table ensembles which were sold at high-end department stores throughout the U.S. Thorpe is best known for her glassware with simple silver and platinum wide band rims. This clean modern design was recently revived by the television show Mad Men.
