Another masterfully thrown and glazed piece by Sid Oakley (1932-2004). The red glaze on white clay are a signature style of Mr. Oakley's. A fine piece to add to your studio pottery collection.
Sid Oakley was a native of Granville County, North Carolina. In 1968 he and his wife, Pat, founded Creedmoor Cedar Creek Pottery and Gallery in his home county. Named a North Carolina Living Treasure in 1989, Oakley mentored and championed hundreds, if not thousands, of contemporary artists and craftspeople. He was particularly known for his glazing techniques and his work is in the permanent collections of many major museums.
