French 19th century painted and gold-gilt barometer and thermometer. It is a recognizable ‘banjo’ shaped scientific instrument with all the carved details in gold gilt mounted to a case of painted, sage green. The circular dial of the barometer has painted (faded) lettering behind protective glass for reading the current conditions, while the Centigrade thermometer above is scaled from freezing to 45 (113 Fahrenheit). It may no longer work for taking accurate measurements, this relic of meteorology history is an intriguing decorative piece to add rococo flourish to any wall.
