Prepared for the French National Railroads (but printed in the United States), this lithographic travel poster was printed in France in 1949. The map highlights the network of European railroads which originate in Paris. On the lower left-hand corner, a small inscription informs readers that the map was offered to travel agents at the 1949 A.S.T.A. Convention, where travel agents, travel industry, and travelling public from around the globe were encouraged to meet, ask questions, and share stories.
Of A.S.T.A., the official website says: "ASTA (American Society of Travel Agents) is the world's largest association of travel professionals. Our members include travel agents and the companies whose products they sell such as tours, cruises, hotels, car rentals, etc. We are the leading advocate for travel agents, the travel industry and the traveling public."
