These are by the famous Kronheim and Oldenbusch Metal Novelty Company, circa 1930, a rare or hard to find bookends nice finish with original gilded bronze patina.
genuine and original.
measuring 9 inches long by 7 inches tall Because they are fully figural or three dimensional, they look even larger and display beautifully in many positions. Made of heavy cast pot metal with a rare finish of contrasting and complementary bronzes.
This is the arts and crafts influence or mixed metals approach which always serves to highlight the details of the castings. The bookend are art deco in style and origin. They show two big wild cats, tiger, panthers or mountain lions, even cougars or panthers, fighting, locked in deadly battle. They are entangled in each other with their huge mouths open and showing the teeth. One is biting at the others neck. Very reminiscent and inspired by the 19th century French animaliers work in bronze showing the fierce nature of the wild and the beast.
