The weaver, Bernadine Tsosie, has created a modern interpretation of a style of rug that was woven in the late 19th century largely for trade, given that the Navajo did not have chiefs per se. The original Chiefs Blankets were large enough to wrap around a person covering from shoulders to knees bringing the ends wrapped in front of the wearer and the design elements from each side coming to meet. This rug is certified by the Navajo Arts and Crafts Enterprise, Window Rock AZ. Color in photo is not as rich as in person. The background is a rich red with black, blue and white design. See less
