Exceptional vintage c.1950's Scandinavian art pottery ceramic vase with a brilliant deep cobalt blue glaze and rough black bark like base!
Gustav Kraitz (b. 1926) and Ulla Kraitz (b.1936) are a husband and wife duo of Swedish sculptors that have been working in collaboration for over 50 years. They are renowned for their playful oeuvre, distinctive by their shimmering glazes, the result of a technique specially developed by the Kraitzes using a kiln fired with both wood and coal.
It measures 7 3/4" tall and 4 3/4" in diameter. It is in very good vintage condition, with age appropriate wear. There are no chips or cracks. Only minor issue I can see is a very thin small drip of white latex paint as shown in the closeup, could be removed but the rough texture makes it a bit difficult.
