The Amanta model was the first piece designed by Mario Bellini for the Italian firm's debut. He drew inspiration from Ludwig Mies Van de Rohe's Barcelona chair to produce one of the very first modular sofas.
This series is no longer in production, but a second version was released in 1975 with a few structural differences, such as the removal of the rear slit, the removal of the buttons, and the addition of an extra cushion on the seat. However, the real innovation was the addition of an armrest module.
The armchair is cubic in shape. The frame is made from a single piece of reinforced polyester with a slit in the middle of the backrest to reinforce the structure's strength. It is composed of three cushions independent of the structure with three covered buttons on the backrest and three on the seat to tighten the upholstery. In addition, the armchair has no legs. The B&B Italia logo is also molded under the structure.
