A very nice maritime cabinet plate
"The Admiral", D-6278, from "The Professionals" series made by Royal Doulton during the first half of the 20th century
Colorful hand tinted under glaze transfer scene, featuring a British Navy Admiral portrait, an impressive man posing in his majestic uniform, tricorn hat and epaulettes
The plate's border features galleons at sea
Stamped on the back in green with the standard lion and crown mark introduced in 1930, there is also a number 3, which accordingly to Royal Doulton's 1927- 1957 dating pattern will indicate production year 1930 (reference: pottery histories website)
