The vase has a rich Flemish history and is marked "Made in Belgium and 64." This tall Art Nouveau jug-style vase is decorated with interesting figures of butterflies and geese in a beautiful blue, yellow, green, and brown polychrome glaze. Potters, many of them famous, have worked in Belgium since the 18th century. These potters created a type of pottery that features an applique folk-art style that reached its peak in the Art Nouveau period. The style quickly spread throughout Flanders and subsequently into Britain and North America. This earthenware vase is a large and beautiful example of that Flemish pottery. It measures 16 in / 41 cm in height, 5.5 in / 14 cm is the diameter at the base, and 2.5 in / 6 cm at the diameter of the mouth. See less
