This is a beautiful mantle clock in ormolu (fire gild bronze) Made of heavy solid bronze.
Made early 19th century, around 1810. The dial is made of bronze with an enamel circle with roman numbers. The movement is the original one. Professional clockmakers have cleaned and checked everything. The clock looks like a jewel. It has an 8-day rope movement . It strikes every half and whole hour on a bell. It chimes and works perfectly.
The ormolu of the clock is original, our clockmakers have just cleaned it.
This clock is unique and very beautiful. The size is very big , bigger than any other clock of this kind. It combines true creative artistry with conventional , classical and figurine aesthetics .
The 4 legs are beautifully decorated with rosettes and make that the clock stands very sturdy.
The base is multi-layered and decorated with typically French ornaments and figures in relief.
They are telling a historical story.
If we look a bit higher we see on the right a beautiful made lyre, very detailed. The lyre is leaning against a column where the dial and movement find a prominent place. At the lower part of the column we find a breathtaking beautiful relief decoration of a swan with spreaded wings like it wants to tell us it is a king. Beautiful depicted on a bed of floral and wreath motifs.
The dial itself is surrounded by a wreath, made real fine. On the left and the right of the dial we find a rosette. On top of the column we find wreath that is leaning on a roll of parchment paper.
On the left of the column we find a male Roman historical figure that is holding a tabula rasa. A breathtaking beautiful figure that is made with eye for the smallest details. The man is wearing a long draped gown which is made with utmost precision, look at the hands and the feet. He even wears sandals. His hair is very detailed also. A very lively figure.
If this clock is in your possession you cannot stop looking at it. It is truly an exceptional piece of handmade art. This piece is fully decorated and not one piece of teh clock is without decoration.
The clock will come complete including winding key and pendulum.
The measurements are about:
70 cm high - 27.5 inch high.
45 cm wide - 18 inch wide.
14 cm deep - 5.5 inch deep.
This clock will be packed very carefully and send worldwide including tracking and insurance to your address.
