There is so much work and thinking behind something so slight and precious, it is a wonder. If you know anything about glass blowing, you'll know that each cane used to create the pattern here is hand-pulled and twisted latticino. You can see the artist's hand laying out the sequence of cane -- the colors and patterns of the cane then adhering to the firey glass bubble. I wonder if this may be a study for a larger piece, or an end of the day use of some left over materials...? Regardless, it is a delicate beauty. Note that there is an air bubble that appears like a mar on the interior surface of the bowl. This is not a chip but just a flaw that sometimes occurs in a hand-made object.

The written card was within the bowl when it was first acquired. Possible that this was blown by a relation to Carlo Scarpa? See less
