Description: Offered is an original engraving, cut out of a folio size book, matted and framed under glass in a gilt bevel edge wood frame. On verso is a description of the art, a wire cable and bumpers at base over an antique white ground backing paper with silver gilt pattern. 'Village Frame - Santa Barbara, California' label adhered to lower verso.
Measures: 14.75 W x 19.25 H x 1 Thick inches.

The top of the board on a green field is one of those decorative fragments where Asian taste, regardless of the relationship between things, likes to play freely. The approximations and the oppositions of tones are the finest. The intense reddish-brown revivals, and sometimes the use of black, happily rule out any blandness, providing an airy serenity and lightness in the background.
The motif on ochre yellow field is a fragment of fabric embroidery where the gradations of effect are more frankly written and where the vigor is more general; a true model of the genre, it is through the partitioning in white, an unequaled means of isolation, that the design overcomes the crushing value of the background and rises there with all the firmness and all the brilliance desired.
