Weathered, bronzed buste sculpture “Lucrece” by french sculptor Emmanuel Villanis (1858-1914). Villanis was best known for his small scale, bronze statuettes of young women and he enjoyed international acclaim for this work. And rightfully so, because look how wonderfully this young woman has been portrayed. The expression on her face is priceless!
This sculpture shows Lucrece with her hair in a loose bun, a small crown on her head and a nonchalant scarf draped around her shoulders. A defiant look on her face.
The work has been displayed outside and this resulted in weathering, paint loss and some damage.
It has however also resulted in an incredible patina which can only be acquired by the passage of time under natural conditions.
The colors are truly amazing.
