Chinese porcelain lidded dragon haitangzun, a large floor vase with a peacock blue glaze with faint white highlights on the … Read more Chinese porcelain lidded dragon haitangzun, a large floor vase with a peacock blue glaze with faint white highlights on the lid, body, interior and inset base, with finely carved heavy bas-relief artwork throughout. The lid finial is in the form of a Buddhist stupa, stepping down to a band of alternating stylized clouds and Buddhist conches on the top of the lid, and then a band of auspicious, intertwined gourds on its side, ending in a wide flange of studded chevrons. The body is adorned with a finely carved, Taoist, five-clawed sky dragon, with studded highlights, chasing the flaming pearl of wisdom on the front, and the opposite side of the vase has a leaping ocean carp, the dragon's birth form, all amid stylized clouds above and roiling, ocean waves below. The neck has a cloud and thunder border and just below that, a finely carved, Qianlong reign mark in Zhuanshu script is set in a horizontal, rectangular cartouche. The finely carved, traditional, Chinese, hongmu, circular stand is not included. Circa early Republic of China era, no later than mid century. Unobtrusive stable repair to the finial, otherwise excellent vintage condition.
