The maker of this pair of window panels is unknown but kudos to him for the creativity of this piece … Read more The maker of this pair of window panels is unknown but kudos to him for the creativity of this piece that brought in so much life and beauty. The construction of this pair adhered to the traditional method of joinery. But the accent pieces stand out in their three dimensional qualities. In the center of each piece is a mirror, the original gone but replaced with something old that is consistent with the age of this piece. The origin is unknown, the likelihood of it taken from a fine house in Zhejiang or Anhui Provinces is highly possible. It stylistic elements are light and sophisticated, quite unlike window panels from Shanxi or Fujian. The birds are realistic and finely carved showing details of feathers and claws. The older of the furry animals have horns and they confront each other as if in conversation. The vines and leaves and flower petals are all carried out in a realistic manner and nicely done. This pair is the most attractive of its kind that I came across in my years of sourcing for architectural materials in China. See less
