The pair display a colorful and elegantly executed victorian "birds and flowers" tableau. The glass is painted and fired on both sides which produces an extra depth and quality when the light shines through. The pair are in excellent condition when considering their age, fragility and having been stored well. The pair are signed on a lower right corner glass panel as "Proye & Taravel", Paris. Unfortunately over the years this particular panel cracked, however, it is intact and is holding well within the lead and caulking. The overall caulking has been repaired over the years and the panels are tight. The hinges are bronze and are slightly bent which can be easily corrected with gentle care. I would suggest, however, that due to their rarity and value this set would be best served with some conservation by a glass specialist. I will have to update the exact dimensions as I photographed these at my storage center and neglected to write them down. I'll post those soon! They are approximately 7ft x 12" each.
