These Types of … Read more This really is a Great Looking Antique American Stoneware Bean Pot - Crock. Circa Early 20th Century. These Types of Cooking Pots were made for Preparing Baked Beans in the Traditional Way. It is an Approx. The Front is Marked with a 2 Referring to its Capacity - 2 Quarts. It is done in the Classic American Style 2 Color Coffee Brown and Natural Sand Color Stoneware Style with a Glossy Slip Outer Glaze. Front is Decorated In Black Lettering with The Merchant - Sellers Name - Reads E. SWASEY & CO. PORTLAND MAINE. Back in the day these type of stoneware containers were On Loan to Customers from the Product Manufacturers so that They Could be Used and Refilled. As you can see in my listing Photographs this Pot Has Been Used Extensively for Many Years. Note! that these pots were Made for Utilitarian Purposes. They were Used to Bake in Very Hot Ovens for Hours at a Time and Imperfections - Surface - Glaze Cracks Would Have Occurred of as a Result. It is in Very Good Strong - Sound Condition and it Displays Very Nicely. Minor Imperfections Noted - It has a Chip on the Top Rim that has Darkened with Age. The Lid has a Small Chip on Underside Rim of the Lid. There is a Faint Crack on the Lower Perimeter - Side that Extends to the Bottom. This Crack Would have Occurred as a Result of Oven Heat - Use Over the Years and Does Not Render it Unusable.
I Acquired this piece on one of my recent Picking Adventures in the Down East - Coastal Maine Region.
It Measures 5 3/4 Inches Tall x 7 3/4 Inches Long x 7 inches Wide.
