Throughout the Middle East, Mughal India and Persia ewers such as this one, were used for hand washing typically before meals and after journeys. Often the ewer would hold delicately-scented rosewater. The ewer is hand-hammered of copper that has been tinned all over. The ewer is of bulbous form, hand fabricated from heavy gauged hammered and heat welded sheets of copper. Its unique design is ancient, efficient, and still used in the modern era. This heavy ewer/pitcher is designed with a single dovetail pin hinge lid, swollen pear shape rounded body, slender curved spout, finial topped lid, is flared footed and extremely well built.
The heavy sturdy brass handle is also hand crafted and accents its superb and beautiful construction. Rugged yet aesthetically pleasing to the eye. This traditional antique copper Turkish Ottoman/Islamic ewer is clearly well cared for and shows signs of traditional usage.
Measurements: 16 inches tall; approx. 10 inches wide (the body) + 5 inches lateral part of the spout. (41 cm, 26 cm + 13 cm).
