A vintage vase with matching candle holders in crisp white porcelain designed by Martin Freyer (1909-1975) for the Rosenthal Porcelain … Read more A vintage vase with matching candle holders in crisp white porcelain designed by Martin Freyer (1909-1975) for the Rosenthal Porcelain Factory of Germany in the late 1960s. The modern design was called Plissée [pleated] after the low relief lines trailing around each piece to create the appearance of pleated fabric. The sculptural collection makes a striking addition to a mantlepiece, console or dining table.

All pieces are in very good condition and fully marked on the bases. The candle holders each bear the green Rosenthal / Germany printed mark underfoot while the vase has a green printed Rosenthal / studio-line / Germany mark over Martin Freyer's facsimile signature. The marks indicate these pieces were produced in the 1980s. The candle holders measure 4.75 in. height x 4 in. wide; the vase measures 4.38 in. height x 4.5 in. wide.

Hans Martin Freyer designed the Volkswagen logo in 1937 and went on to work as a stage, art, graphic, and industrial designer. He worked as a freelance designer for Porzellanmanufaktur Rosenthal from 1964-1974. See less
