A terrific French Louis XV style kingwood bureau plat or writing desk with a leather top, bronze mounts and dovetail drawers.
This rectangular-shaped writing table-top is set with a single piece of caramel-colored leather, a bronze frame surround and imposing bronze corner mounts of leafy scrolls descending down cabriole legs to pierced and capped feet. The table has three drawers accessible from the front and replicated on the back with faux fronts. A series of flat bronze frames delineate the drawer fronts and back panels and follow the side aprons’ sinuous contours. The outer drawer pulls have three-dimensional foliate scrolls and all drawers have foliate-shaped keyhole escutcheons.
The desk was sourced from a lovely estate in one of the wealthiest towns along Connecticut's Gold Coast.
