Two 'scrolled border' medallions … Read more Large Chinese porcelain ginger jar hand painted in rich enamels with a striking gold background glaze. Two 'scrolled border' medallions on opposite sides of the body depict little children learning their lessons (on one side) and children playing & dancing (on the other). One delightful little boy is riding his hobby horse whilst others have swords, rattles and scrolls. The attendants are traditionally clad in flowing Chinese robes.
Numerous precious objects (gourds, peaches, fans and ribboned fruit to mention a few) are very well painted against the gold background that adorns the rest of the body with a traditional pink, turquoise and pale blue ruyi border finish off the neck/top. The jar comes with the original cover which is decorated in a complementary style. A very auspicious ginger jar and a rare find indeed!
The underside is stamped with the Yongzheng reign mark in red. See less
