Circa 1770 High chest of drawers. Pennsylvania, probably Chester County walnut & poplar.
69 inches high, 44 1/2 inches wide at the cornice, 41 inch case, 23 1/2 inch deep at the corner.
The high chest has a complex and beautifully molded cornice over three short parallel drawers. The center one embellished with Inlaid initials MM. Two parallel drawers over 4 full length drawers. These drawers are beautifully graduated, have lipped edges and are embellished with batwing Chippendale brasses. The front corners of the case or ornamented with fluted quarter columns.
The amazing variation from the usual Chester County piece is it they are stop fluted. There is a molded bass supported by Ogee feet
