Charles & ray eames for herman miller segmented walnut & steel counter height table with rectangular top on twin supports
stamped to the underside of the table with herman miller authenticity certificate.
released to the market in 1964, the eames segmented tables were a group of dining, work and conference tables designed with an ingenious base system that allowed for an almost indefinite number of top size possibilities, expansion and versatility unrivalled anywhere in the marketplace.
this is a mid-century modern rectangular office or drafting table, with a clean, minimalist design.
top: broad rectangular wooden top with softly rounded corners and a thin, neatly finished edge. The wood has a warm medium-brown/reddish teak-like appearance with a relatively subtle grain.
base: distinctive two-column pedestal base, with two slim black cylindrical uprights supporting the tabletop.
frame: the uprights connect to a horizontal central stretcher, giving the table additional stability.
feet: each pedestal terminates in a wide, angular four-point aluminium/metal base, creating a distinctive star-like footprint. The metal has a brushed or slightly aged silver finish.
style: strongly mid-century modern, with influences from classic 1950s–60s contract and office furniture.
overall character: functional and architectural, combining a warm wooden surface with contrasting black and polished metal. It would work particularly well as a designer workspace, studio desk, meeting table, or high-level workbench.
the combination of the wood top, black columns and sculptural aluminium base is the most distinctive feature of the table.
