A Louis Philippe gilt bronze mounted mahogany commode
second quarter 19th century
Surmounted by a marble top.
height 36 1/4in (92.5cm); width 51in (139.5cm); depth 23in (58 1/2in)
Condition:
Structurally sound. With a chestnut color to the highly figured timber. General marks, nicks, scratches and wear commensurate with age and use. Scattered minor losses to marble overall. Mounts probably original. Rubbing and spotting to gilding. Scattered losses to banding mounts. Shrinkage cracking to sides. Areas of cracking, separation to veneer around vase joints. Notable damage to lower left front corner. Scuffs and wear to opposite corner. With spotting, water damage and scattered veneer loss around base. No key.
