A little leek trivia: Leek growing is a competitive sport in some places, including in coal-mining regions of England, as the “manure from the pit-ponies” was a perfect growing medium for the veggies.
Leeks are toxic to dogs and cats, so keep them (and their Allium relatives) away from your furry friends.
The beautiful and tasty Allium family includes not just leeks, onions and garlic, but also shallots, ramps, scallions, chives and a number ornamentals grown for their unique globe-shaped flower heads.
This carton (on hard cardboard) would have been used as an advertising piece in a shop during the 1920s.
In very good condition, this piece is ready to be framed.
