Peculiar and interesting pair of Italian wooden bedside tables; the entire front instead of being straight and linear is "wavy," and to give greater emphasis to this aspect, the craftsmen arranged the wood the doors with horizontal grain enhancing the wavy aesthetic in a clever and meaningful way; for each bedside table, the top shelf has two straight and two wavy sides, and the functional space below is divided by a large compartment closed by a door and an outer space with a small, practical exposed shelf; the nightstand has four solid shaped feet made of black lacquered wood, the front two are joined by an ornamental crossbeam also made of black lacquered wood; the doors close by pressure and are fitted with two brass handles in the shape of a woven flower; one of these had lost its central part, which has been replaced, over time, by a screw !!!!!! (see photo). The spacious interior is made of polished light pine wood that creates a pleasant and bright contrast with the rest of the furniture. A skilled master cabinetmaker executed these nightstands in the Art Deco style in a perfect and meticulous manner between 1946 and 1947 in the area of Lendinara, in the province of Rovigo (Italy) one of the most prestigious districts for furniture production in the Veneto region. Sapele, a prestigious reddish-colored wood similar to mahogany from Equatorial Africa, was used in the construction of these two pieces of furniture. This sophisticated material has a tight weave and interwoven fibers, fine and even and with a good natural luster. It is a sturdy, rather flexible, hard, and compact type of wood. It is usually used for luxury furniture and cabinetry, but also in the interior decoration of yachts and boats as well as in sophisticated and expensive musical instruments. The entire structure was made of unfinished Sapele, which was then veneered with the same wood, but using the most precious part of Sapele the part that has multiple natural grains that are always different, the part that was subjected then to polishing was able to enhance the chromaticism and flaming of this exceptional exotic wood. The nightstands have been treated by hand with ancient restoration techniques by our team of craftsmen and are in excellent condition. Measurements width cm.54, depth cm.32, height cm.56. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
