A superb bronze Japanese Buddhist lion, shishi, with one paw on a pierced ball. Artist signed on bottom of statue. Includes wooden stand. Two holes were drilled on bottom of the lion to secure it to stand, see photos.
Measures:
4.25" high x 3.5" square.
Note: This belonged to one of the curators at the Smithsonian's Freer/Sackler Museum (now known as the National Museum of Asian Art) where he kept it on his desk. I purchased this years ago from his nephew who inherited it and also kept it on his desk.
