"Eglomise" mirrors have been painted on the reverse side to reveal an image from behind the glass. This one depicts a bucolic scene of a country house with a large tree shading it against painted white glass. The frame is painted with a base coat of gilt and accentuated by carved details painted in black surround the mirror. Each corner piece of the frame is painted black and set with a gold gilt rosette adding layers of character. Light foxing is visible in the original mirror plate.
