This Swedish Empire style trumeau exudes a simple refinement in its symmetry and composure. A low pediment sits atop a painted black and decorative gilt bronze-trimmed cornice. The top panel above the mirror plate is ebonized (painted black) and embellished with a rather intricate scrolling piece of ormolu like an unfurling anthemion design. Bright, honey-toned wood frames the whole and sports a fantastic patina. Light signs of foxing are visible in the original mirror plate which does not obscure the reflection. Complementary to the top, the lower panel is also painted black and holds a stylized foliate applique in gilt bronze positioned in east-west orientation. Circa 1820.
