Exquisit and very rare floating mirror attributed to Gio Ponti for Fontana Arte in 1945 in Italy - the aged brass shows the beautiful patina while we renovated the backing of the mirror to enhance stability. This stunning piece seems to be floating and is elegantly held by brass details.
Due to the age and rarity of this piece the mirror has not been restored maintaining its original vintage patina.
The Milan-based firm Fontana Arte pioneered one of the key features of 20th-century and contemporary Italian design: the union of artistry and industry wrought by partnerships having had as artistic director, in succession, four of Italy’s most inventive modernist designers: Giò Ponti, Pietro Chiesa.
Gio Ponti (1891-1979) is one of the most influential design visionaries of the 20th century. Ponti designed a wide array of furniture and products throughout his career. Through Domus, the design magazine he founded in 1928, Ponti promoted a new curiosity and open-mindedness towards new design thinking.
