Take a look at this beautiful delicately handwoven “Teneriffe Lace” basket, woven from raffia around a wire frame. From what I understand, Teneriffe basketry was traditionally associated with pine needles and raffia. Baskets incorporating this technique or design element come from all points around the world, Italy, Bolivia, Canary Islands, the United States, just to name a few. Because of my affinity for baskets, I have been gifted with more than my share, over the years, so this one being a gift, country of origin is unknown. It hails from the 1970s. This beauty is oblong in shape and measures 13¼” wide from handle tip-to-handle tip; 11” diameter; height 4¼” taken from handle top to bottom; 3¼” high taken from side of basket; weight 4 oz; handwoven from raffia over a wire frame; color is naturally aged raffia which is a pale tan. In excellent condition with no visible wear. For a basket aficionado, this beauty should be a must have.
