This 3.25" blackware pottery vase was made … Read more Traditional Cherokee black clay Pottery Vase Signed by Louise Bigmeat Maney beautifully designed. This 3.25" blackware pottery vase was made by Louise Bigmeat Maney (1932-2001). It is in wonderful condition. Geometric shapes and arrowhead design surround the vase.
Signed "L. Bigmeat Maney, Cherokee, N.C." on the bottom.

Artist info-
Louise Bigmeat was raised on Wrights Creek in the Painttown community of Cherokee, North Carolina. The Bigmeat family has been producing handmade clay pottery in the Cherokee, North Carolina area for generations, beginning in the late 1800s. She was member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, she was a third generation potter. Her mother and sisters were key in her development in the family pottery busines, her family and her pieces are now found in galleries and museums throughout the U.S and the Smithsonian. Great piece by a well known Cherokee potter, who was named a Beloved Woman by her tribe after she passed in 2001.
