Scrap Metal Fair and Ham Fair (Foire a la Ferraille et Foire au Jambon)
After having been successively located on the Île de la Cité, then Quai des Grands-Augustins (formerly Quai de la Vallée), rue du Faubourg-Saint-Martin and finally Boulevard Bourdon, the Foire au Jambon was transferred in 1869 by decree of police Boulevard Richard-Lenoir between Bastille and Boulevard Voltaire where it will occupy the central platform. Very early on, these food traders were joined by second-hand, antiques and old scrap merchants. The fair, which took place until 1940 from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, took, after World War II, the rhythm of twice a year, in spring and autumn, and became known as the Foire à la Ferraille - Foire au Jambon.
In 1969, the Paris Police Prefecture moved the Fair to the Beaubourg Plateau and on February 2, 1970, the Paris Prefect, transferred it outside of Paris, to Chatou. In memory of the time when it was located in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, the alleys of the Chatou fair were named after the names of streets and monuments of the 11th Arrondissement: Boulevard Richard-Lenoir, Allée du Chemin-Vert, and Allée Bataclan.
